About Maldives Tax Advocacy Network (MTAN)
The Maldives Tax Advocacy Network (MTAN) was established as a dedicated civil society platform to facilitate informed public participation in fiscal affairs. Through evidence-based advocacy, community outreach, and inclusive dialogue, MTAN seeks to elevate public understanding of taxation and contribute to a more transparent, accountable, and citizen-responsive fiscal landscape.
The Maldives has made significant progress in developing a comprehensive tax system within a relatively short period. As this system continues to mature, structured and meaningful community engagement in tax policy has become increasingly important. This reflects a growing recognition of global best practices where public engagement is fundamental to strengthen trust in fiscal institutions, enhance policy legitimacy, and promote voluntary compliance.
To act as a non-partisan platform for the community in tax and fiscal affairs through information, education, collaboration, & deliberation.
